Today we live in a world which faces one of the greatest challenges of Environmental Pollution. The enormity of the problem requires swift and effective measures to handle it. To raise the awareness on this global issue, the Institution of Engineers Pakistan, Saudi Arabian Center (IEP-SAC) arranged a technical seminar on Friday, 22nd of Nov. 2019 on the topic “Environmental Pollution: Causes, Effects and Control with Emphasis on Islamic Perspective” delivered by Engr. Syed Mubashir Hussain Kirmani. The chief guest at the occasion was the Welfare counselor of the Embassy of Pakistan, Mr. Mahmoud Lateef.
The proceedings started with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Engr. Dr Hafiz Imran. Engr. Mohammad Asim Siddiqui, the moderator of the event, welcomed the guests and requested the convener of Technical seminar committee, Engr. Dr. Rafiq Choudhry to conduct the technical session. While introducing the speaker, Dr Rafiq Choudhry mentioned that Engr. Kirmani, being a Civil Engineer, had more than 52 years of experience in diversified fields and authored twenty-five papers in various international journals. He invited the speaker for the keynote address.
Presenting the layered structure of earth atmosphere, Engr. Mubashir Hussain Kirmani said that the main human-induced sources of Air pollution are power plants, automobiles, waste management, deforestation and others. Since the industrial revolution, the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has disrupted the earth’s delicate climate balance, causing a rise in global temperature. He said that these Global warming and climate changes are having harmful consequences not only on the climate and geography of the earth, but also on the biodiversity of plants and animals. He said that this mammoth issue of environmental pollution is self-inflicted by humans. He mentioned several verses of the Holy Quran describing the ill effects of the human actions on the environment. Engr. Kirmani said that the Islamic perspective to control Environmental pollution based on the teaching of Quran and Sunnah is the best ethical code of conduct to build a low-emission climate resilient future.
The presentation was followed by Q&A session which was conducted by Dr Rafiq Choudhry. Engr. Rizwan Ahmad, the Chairman of IEPSAC Eastern region and Guest of Honor on the occasion, appreciated the informative presentation by Engr. Kirmani. He said that IEPSAC has been organizing technical seminars on various burning topics in Eastern region also. The chief guest, Mr. Mahmoud Lateef said that it is an irony that the developed countries in general enjoy clean environment and good quality of life, while the 3rd world countries, like Pakistan suffer from the environmental pollution issues caused by industrial powers of the world. He said that the governments around the world should take tangible actions to keep our planet green.
While acknowledging Engr. Kirmani for his scholarly and informative lecture, Engr. Syed Muhammad Iqbal, the chairman of IEPSAC, said that IEPSAC has been instrumental in raising the awareness on the important global issues from engineering perspective. He thanked the attendees of the event for making it a successful seminar through their participation. Engr. Iqbal said that IEPSAC has been sponsoring 96 Engineering students in various public sector universities in Pakistan since 1996. He requested the audience to continue their support for this noble cause. He expressed his gratitude to the Custodian of the two Holy Mosques, King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz and the Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman for their support for Pakistani community in KSA.
Shields were presented to the guest speaker, Guest of Honor and the chief Guest. The event concluded with the dinner.
